IATSE 212 is committed to helping members upgrade their skills and the IATSE 212 Education Committee updates courses on an ongoing basis. Certain courses are prerequisites for being considered for a department, and others are required before permittee status will be considered. A completed department application must be received prior to registering for department specific courses. Once your application has been received you will be contacted to complete the registration process. Thank you.

Stage: Caucus 2&3 Basics 2026-Sep-17 - 9/17/2026

"Wondering how to get on the call list for the theatres of Caucus 3? Or where to go when you get your first call at the Saddledome? How about what to bring to a stage call? Well then, this course is for you! This 2 hour course will cover information on IATSE 212 stage dispatch, hours, breaks, contracts, WCB, OH&S rules, proper headset and walkie-talkie use, how to be prepared for a stage call and a peek inside all the major union venues in the city. Whether you are brand new to the industry or have been around for a bit, this course has some useful information for everyone. Session is from 1pm-3pm at IATSE 212. Core Concepts: Stage Lighting Basics 2026-Sep-21 - 9/21/2026

This 4 hour workshop runs from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm.and will introduce students to the basics of entertainment lighting, including useful tools, PPE, terminology, types of conventional fixtures, types of connectors, power, cabling, hanging, basic focus and safety. By completing this course, students will be better prepared for the Jubilee "B" test, calls in the Caucus 3 theatres, and general stage lighting calls. Maximum of 8 participants. Aerial Boom & Scissor Lift Operator Certification 2026-09-23 - 9/23/2026

This training provides a classroom presentation, written test, hands-on practice and skills testing session needed for safe operation of an aerial boom lift and scissor lift. Operator skills will be evaluated using industry standards. Class is from 0800 - 1630. Participants must have valid Fall Protection certification and provide basic PPE. Sign Painting for Film 2026-Oct-24&25 - 10/24/2026

This two-day intensive workshop will start with a discussion about painting signs for film. Topics covered will include layout, lettering and how signs are used, steps taken to re-create signs and graphics for different time periods and distance from camera. Day 2 will be a quick recap of day one, followed by the students working on project sign panels/samples. This is a hands on workshop that will run 9 am - 5 pm both days. Participants should bring the following to class: basic yard stick, standard ruler, lunch, clothing suitable to paint in, notebook. Painting tools and materials will be provided.
